MGC PhD Workshop 2017: Activities

MGC PhD Workshop 2017: Activities

Dear MGC Workshop participant,

Thank you for your registration to this years MGC Workshop in Leuven!
Now the registration is closed we have the exact number of participants so we can make the programme, which will be announced soon.

The scientific programme will mostly consists of your input. Therefore each PhD student has an obligation during the workshop, besides submitting your abstract (not everyone has submitted yet!) and being on time for the bus.
Because this year the amount 1st years is relatively high, and 3rd and 4th years are low, we decided to add some obligations this year, especially for the 1st years.
Updated:

•           1st year – Bring 1 PowerPoint slide for a 1 minute ProjectPitch
•           2nd year – Bring a poster containing your research and 1 PowerPoint slide for your 1 minute PosterPitch
•           3rd and 4th year – Scheduled for a Presentation

This means that as a 1st year PhD student you need to explain in 1 minute what you are planning to do the coming 4 years, using 1 slide.
As 2nd year students you a present your preliminary results on a poster and use the 1 minute PosterPitch to lure the audience to your poster.
Both 3rd and 4th year students show their final results/plans of their PhD in a 25 minute presentation (20 minute talk, 5 minute discussion).

For now we already have confirmed 2 guest speakers; Somersault18:24 and Karin Voordeckers.

– Somersault18:24 is an initiative by two former scientists who pledge themselves to bring visual arts and science together.
– Karin Voordeckers is a post-doc in the Kevin Verstrepen lab who focusses on the adaptations of yeast in presence of ethanol. (BEER SCIENCE!)
You can find more information on the MGC website at the ‘Invited Speakers‘ section.

In addition to our guest speakers, we can confirm on three activities of which you can choose during your free afternoon on Wednesday.
This year you can choose between; Archery Tag, Beer Brewery Visit (including a game of laser tag) and a City Golf Tour.
For more information please visit the ‘Activities‘ section on the website. You can register for these activities through this link: Registration
We advise you to choose the activity quickly before your first choice will be full. The activities will be assigned on a ‘first-come-first-serve’ basis.

Tune in on the website for more frequent updates!

Kind regards,

on behalf of the MGC Workshop Committee,
Stefan Roobol
